Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Representative

is a Scientific Programme Manager with Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). Fiona has been responsible for the development and delivery of SFI’s Technology Innovation Development Award (TIDA) programme. Fiona has managed the ongoing evaluation of a portfolio of SFI awards in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences, Materials Science, Networks and Communications, Energy, Mathematics and Engineering. Fiona has lead SFI’s Gender Strategy to improve the representation and progression of women in all aspects of STEM careers in Ireland. Fiona is the programme manager for the €30M SFI Research Centre IPIC, Irish Photonic Integration Centre.

Fiona has a background in material physics and project management. Prior to joining SFI Fiona was Programme Manager for the Centre for Women in Science and Engineering Research (WiSER) in Trinity College Dublin. Fiona carried out four years of postdoctoral research through positions at Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin, securing funding, publishing numerous highly cited articles in leading academic journals, and presenting her work internationally on many occasions. She has also acted as technical reviewer for several international academic journals. 
Fiona holds a PhD in Physics and a degree in Natural Science (Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials) from Trinity College Dublin.
