The MIDAS Ireland community is very sorry to hear of the passing of Professor Maurice Whelan, the inaugural recipient of our Lifetime Achievement Award. We convey our deepest condolences to his family at this very sad time.
As founder of Silicon & Software Systems (S3) in 1986, Professor Whelan played a crucial role in establishing Ireland’s leadership position in electronics internationally. In particular, he was instrumental in creating a source of talent which became a foundation stone for today’s flourishing indigenous and multinational microelectronics sector in Ireland.
